Carpe Diem School | 68.04 kW | George, South Africa
Generating Solar Power
About this project
Carpe Diem caters for learners aged 6-18 with special physical and learning needs that cannot be accommodated in mainstream schools.
It strives to develop the unique potential of its learners through educational and therapeutic programmes. It currently caters for over 380 students with permanent staff that include teachers, psychologists, and speech and occupational therapists.
This school has facilities that are wheelchair accessible to ensure all learners are included – from classroom to playground. The school relies heavily on outreach and fundraising as many of its learners are from low-income households that are unable to pay school fees in full.
Impact and benefits
Carpe Diem’s venture into solar power is inspired by its students. Lowering its electricity bill will allow the school to allocate those funds to maintaining and running the school and providing quality education for all its learners, regardless of families' financial constraints.
